NIFA Seeks National Program Leader for Plant Pathology – closes August 23

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) released a vacancy announcement for the position of National Program Leader for Plant Pathology on August 3, 2017.  NIFA is looking for candidates who are competent in their science, skilled at planning and evaluation, experienced at forming strategic partnerships, and capable in all facets of communication.  The person hired for this position will influence the advancement of the science by helping to determine agency investments in plant pathology and coordinating the efforts of scientists throughout the United States.  He or she will provide strategic direction for NIFA activities and initiatives that support the agricultural enterprise and will provide agency-wide leadership for the development, coordination, reporting, and evaluation of the agency’s programs in plant pathology and related areas of plant health and protection.  NIFA is particularly interested in candidates with strong extension credentials.

NIFA is USDA’s extramural funding agency that supports user-inspired research, education, and extension for providing transformative solutions in food and agricultural sciences.  The agency supports plant pathology and integrated pest management research and extension efforts through a variety of programs, including the Crop Protection and Pest Management program, the National Plant Diagnostic Network, the Citrus Disease Research and Extension Program, and the Plant Health and Production and Plant Products program area of the AFRI Foundational and Applied Science program.  The agency also provides coordination and oversight for land-grant university capacity projects and multi-state research committees.

The National Program Leader for Plant Pathology will be a full-time, permanent GS-13/14/15 level position located in Washington, DC.  The position will be open to all U.S. citizens.  Applicants will be required to have an education and experience in plant pathology and related agricultural disciplines such as integrated pest management, entomology, weed science and/or crop production systems.
